1948–49: University of Michigan Quartet, with the same members as the Stanley Quartet at its official beginning in 1949.

1960–61: The Quartet was inactive as such, with Robert Courte on leave in the University of Michigan’s term 1 (1960) and Gilbert Ross in term 2 (1961).

1973–74: The name Stanley Quartet referred to a piano quartet, whose last performance may have been in late 1974. Its violinist was Percy Kalt and its pianist Benning Dexter; the violist and cellist were Robert Courte and Jerome Jelinek.
